In 2013 Marcia graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelors of Science degree, after which she decided to take two years away from her studies to focus on self-exploration and restoring both her mental and physical wellness. During this time she developed a deeper understanding about the importance of taking the time to take care of oneself, which can involve a great deal of self-reflection and working through difficult issues. It was during this period that Marcia was reminded of her passion, which she developed at a young age of wanting to help others as they navigate their way through personal issues and difficulties in life. This led her to completing a three-year Masters of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counselling at Niagara University, where she completed 1000 hours of supervised clinical training over the course of two internship placements in addition to her in-class studies. Marcia is now a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP).
Marcia is motivated to take the skills and lessons she has learned both in her personal and professional life to help those that are looking to work through complicated issues by creating a safe environment to explore them in. Marcia has clinical experience working with a variety of issues and mental health related concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, body image concerns, disordered eating, obsessive-compulsive disorder and emotion regulation difficulties amongst others.
Marcia works to adapt and tailor the course of treatment to each individual clients needs and goals. She utilizes various clinical interventions including cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, solution-focused therapy and strengths-based approaches, reinforced through a client-centered lens. Marcia aims to create a strong therapeutic alliance built on the foundations of authenticity, trust and respect, and strives to cultivate client wellness through compassion and empathy.
Marcia understands that one of the main facets to a positive therapeutic experience is a safe and trusting relationship with a psychotherapist. She offers free 15-minute phone/video consultations to provide individuals with the opportunity to ask questions about what they can expect from the therapeutic experience and give them an opportunity to decide if it is the right fit for them and their individual needs.
